Tom Mercer
Founder & Principal Agent
Meet Tom
Founder & Principal Agent
I help Southeast Michigan families and small business owners who are tired of feeling like a policy number, so they can work with someone who knows their name and has their back.
That's the whole reason Mercer Agency exists. Tom founded the agency in 2022, inspired to make a real difference in the community rather than just sell another insurance policy. He's a licensed personal and commercial insurance agent, but before any of that, he spent years building a diverse career with global brands like adidas and Riddell, plus a handful of start-ups along the way. That mix of big-brand experience and scrappy start-up grit shapes how he runs the agency today: high standards, no corporate nonsense.
Tom's path took him through Madison, Portland, Seattle, and Chicago before he and his family put down roots in metro Detroit, which they now call home. It's that same desire for community and connection that drives the agency's whole philosophy: serve, don't sell.
Outside the office, Tom is all about family time, coaching basketball at Grosse Pointe South High School, and staying involved in local community organizations. Whether he's on the court or in a client meeting, the approach is the same: show up, pay attention, and do right by people.
When you sit down with Tom, you're not getting a sales pitch. You're getting a neighbor who happens to know a lot about insurance — and who's genuinely invested in seeing you protected.
Blythe Mercer
Personal Lines Advisor
Meet Blythe
Personal Lines Advisor
I help Southeast Michigan families who struggle to make sense of their insurance so they can stop guessing and start feeling confident their loved ones are protected.
That's Blythe's approach in a sentence, and she's lived it long before she ever sold a policy. Blythe joined Mercer Agency in 2024 when we acquired the Colleen Dyer Agency. She was looking for something deeper than a job, a chance to build real relationships and lay down long-term roots in the community she calls home. As a licensed personal lines advisor specializing in life insurance, that's exactly what she's done.
Before insurance, Blythe spent over 15 years running Plateau Cookie, her own boutique custom cookie business — all while raising four kids, Payton, Perrihan, Lielyn, and Abram. Running a small business and a busy household teaches you a few things: how to listen, how to problem-solve on the fly, and how to make people feel taken care of. Blythe brings all of it to every conversation she has with clients.
That same heart for people shows up outside the office, too. She's active in local youth programs and women's ministry initiatives, always looking for ways to invest in the people around her.
When you talk to Blythe, you're not just getting a policy reviewed; you're getting someone in your corner who wants to hear your story and what’s important to you. That's what serving, not selling, looks like.
Nick Olmeda
Account Manager, Personal Lines
Meet Nick
Account Manager, Personal Lines
I help homeowners, families, and boat owners who feel overwhelmed by insurance jargon so they can understand their coverage and make decisions with confidence.
That's what Nick brings to the table every day as our Account Manager for Personal Lines, working with clients on home, auto, boat, and umbrella coverage. He's not interested in just selling a policy and moving on; he wants every client to walk away understanding exactly what they have and why it matters.
Nick is a recent business graduate and former student-athlete at Kalamazoo College, and that background shows up in how he works. Years of being part of a team taught him how to communicate clearly, listen closely, and build trust fast — skills that translate directly to sitting down with a client and figuring out what they need. Add in a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to help people, and it's easy to see why he fits right into the way we do things here.
When you work with Nick, you're getting someone who treats your coverage like it matters, because to him, it does. That's serving, not selling.
